Topics for presentations
Here is a list of potential topics we are interested in, but you are certainly invited to suggest something that is not in this list!
- The latest language learning tools and techniques, including those applied by polyglots;
- Raising multilingual children;
- Growing your language learning network;
- Cross-cultural relationships and multiculturalism;
- Academic approaches and findings on language acquisition and demographics;
- Minority or endangered languages;
- Latest trends and tools in teaching, translation, interpretation;
- Sign language;
- Languages in other fields, e.g., acting, health, sports, etc.;
- Entrepreneurship in the language learning industry.
*Please note that we do not need for this year any more presentations about “personal experience learning languages”.
Presentations
Presentations will last 45 minutes each, including Q&A. The presentation will be a one-way communication to the crowd (except for Q&A) and is expected to contain detailed information about a specific topic related to languages, most frequently presented in a Powerpoint slide deck. All presentations will be recorded and released on our YouTube channel. If for a copyright issue you cannot have the presentation uploaded on our YouTube channel, you have to inform us before the event.
Workshops
LangFest would not be the same without our beloved language workshops for beginners and intermediates! If you would like to share your love for a specific language you master, we invite you present a workshop! Sign languages, lesser-known languages, colloquial language varieties, languages with different writing systems, constructed languages, all languages are welcome!
The workshops will also last 45 minutes each, including Q&A if applicable. Workshops are similar to language classes in that we expect a lot of interaction between the speaker and the participants, most of whom we expect to be at the beginners or intermediate level. Hence we do not accept any advanced level workshops, as we do not expect them to be well attended. Workshops can either be an introduction to a certain language or a discussion on specific topics about a language (writing system, accents or other particularities, etc.). PowerPoint slides are not expected, but if used, please only use sparingly, such as just an outline or explanation of given exercises, etc. Remember that the workshops are quite short, so make them interactive and fun! In principle, workshops are not recorded.
